Challenges addressed by SPARTA

The automotive sector is challenged by the need to securely and efficiently integrate diverse connectivity technologies for sensor data acquisition, network infrastructure management, and data analysis systems into vehicular processes.

Despite the availability of advanced APIs designed to facilitate the integration of various automotive technologies, there is a noticeable gap in understanding their usability and effectiveness. The developers and end users of these APIs often face difficulties in navigating and utilizing them to their full potential, leading to underutilization and potential inefficiencies. There is a need to rigorously evaluate these APIs in real-world testing environments identifying usability issues and areas for improvement to enhance user experience and adoption rates. The automotive sector requires a comprehensive assessment of these APIs' performance, focusing on response times, data throughput, and resource efficiency. This assessment needs to be conducted under realistic conditions to identify bottlenecks and areas for optimization, ensuring that the APIs can meet the rigorous demands of real-world automotive applications.

Solution

SPARTA will develop and deploy an API that abstracts the complexities of the underlying infrastructure connectivity technologies (e.g., 5G, 4G). The API will allow selecting/switching a connectivity technology for data exchange as well as switching to another available connectivity technology.

SPARTA will develop another API that connects to the available underlying vehicular infrastructure, get data, and communicates that to an Edge Computing server for storage through the above API. The exchanged data (e.g., signal strength, throughput, latency) will be visualized in a user-friendly dashboard running from the Edge server.

SPARTA will evaluate the usability and effectiveness of the developed APIs by conducting software testing at the facilities of IDIADA. In addition to that, SPARTA will assess the performance and efficiency of the APIs in terms of response time, data throughput, and resource utilization under different usage scenarios in the testing facilities of IDIADA.
