DS2 draws researchers and practitioners from diverse disciplines to guarantee that the complex lifecycles of inter-sector data sharing, aggregation, and provenance will take place in a human-centric and trusted way, with common structures, exportability, and insight, while protecting the sovereign rights of data owners and complying with European data regulations. DS2 provides a modular software infrastructure to connect data sources (Data Spaces/data silos/data lakes) for cross-sector data sharing. Once connected, data consumers and providers will be able to structure and execute efficient complex data lifecycles that respect the technical and governance-related requirements of the participating data sources.
ReGreeneration is a Horizon project dedicated to shaping the future of green and inclusive smart cities. It involves four leading cities across Europe, Bucharest, Paris, Alverca, and Barcelona pioneering the implementation of nature-based solutions in diverse urban environments. These projects will then be replicated in other European cities: Roma, Ghent, Ljubljana, Segrate, and Lappeenranta.
Threading-CO2 aims to scale up and demonstrate its first-of-its-kind technology producing high-quality commercially viable, sustainable PET textile products from CO2 waste streams at an industrial scale (TRL7) using a circular manufacturing approach and running on renewable energy sources. The overall outcome of the Threading-CO2 project is a 70% GHG emissions reduction compared to existing PET manufacturing processes. In addition, Threading-CO2 will enable the creation of a European value chain for sustainable PET textiles, from feedstock to final textile products in the clothing, automotive, and sports/outdoor industries.
openDBL is a one-step Digital Building Logbook solution that is funded by the European Commission. openDBL intends to integrate multidisciplinary know-how to solve the issues of the current situation. The challenge of the project is to allow, through the development of openAPI, the disposal of openDBL in a unique standardized platform and create useful content, to simplify the workload of the AECO industry.
The BIAS project focuses on addressing concerns regarding the use of AI, particularly Natural Language Processing (NLP) tools, in the labor market. These AI systems can inadvertently perpetuate biases present in their training data, leading to unfair decisions in recruitment, training, and monitoring of employees. Such biases conflict with the European Pillar of Social Rights and the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. Despite efforts to promote equality in European employment, studies show discrimination based on factors like gender, nationality, and sexual orientation. The BIAS project aims to understand and rectify how AI in the labor market either exacerbates or helps alleviate this discrimination.
Harnessing the power of a data economy in agriculture would prove beneficial for the industry. But the potential of such an economy has yet to be explored, despite modern management and agricultural practices generating more data than ever before. Various factors are keeping a fully functional data economy from emerging, including technical interoperability, market transparency, and data ownership issues. The EU-funded DIVINE project aims to show the cost benefits and added value of sharing agri-data. To do this, it will develop an agri-data ecosystem that combines data already commonly shared while also using industry-led pilots that are devised on data-sharing plans. The results would support policymakers, technology providers, farm representatives, and other agri-data stakeholders.
ZeroW directly addresses the challenge of food loss and waste by developing and testing a synergistic mix of innovations in real-life conditions, with the aim to deliver ambitious reductions at all stages of the food supply chain from post-harvest to consumption. ZeroW will provide credible solutions for significantly reducing FLW, involving all actors in the food system in a collaborative framework, to accelerate the just transition to a social, economic, and environmentally sustainable food system for all.
The upPE-T project addresses challenges in plastic waste management by converting PE and PET post-consumer packaging into biodegradable PHBVs for food packaging. Funded by the European Commission, the project aims to upcycle 60% of food packaging, plastic waste by 2030, enhance recycling facilities using innovative bio-catalysis, and promote renewable packaging sources. It seeks to raise public awareness, establish standards, and involve 20 partners from 10 countries. The project targets significant positive impacts including reduced CO2 emissions, substantial PHBV production, diverted plastic from landfill, and job creation.
